Alabama Twisters Spring 2011 Girls Tryout Schedule

Players interested in trying out for a spring team please contact the coaches listed below for more information.  There is a $10 per player charge to tryout and no exceptions.  Players are reminded that you must tryout for a team or make arrangements to tryout with another group so coaches can see you play.  If you cannot make a tryout please make arrangements to have a coach see you play individually.  All our coaches do make trips to see players during the winter in other leagues but this is no gaurantee that you will make a team.  Coaches pick teams based on player skill level and potential.  All players may not make a team.  There will be many team changes this season. No player is guaranteed a spot on a team, even if you played on the team in the past. Head coaches make the final decision as to the make up of each team. The AHSAA 50% rule applies during the Spring Season so know what this rule means before you try out. Alabama Twister Coaches search state wide and in some cases in bordering states for quality players.   Both players and coaches will change. Coaches are needed in some age groups so if interested please call 205-492-7175.

Players in High School are strongly encouraged to play in their own grade division.  Just a reminder that college coaches make scholarship/recruiting decisions based on a players ability to play against girls in the same graduating class.

Players who are pre-High School, especially Junior High School players, will be strongly encouraged to play in their own grade division, but may play in their age appropriate division instead of the grade division with permission from the Alabama Twisters Basketball Club Board. Players who are young enough to play in a lower age division according to the new AAU guidelines will be allowed to choose which team they try out, the Alabama Twisters grade based or the AAU age based with the permission of the Alabama Twisters Basketball Club Board.

Grade Divisions

Competition Divisions for District Qualifying Tournaments, Super Regional Tournaments and National Championships.

Competition in girls’ basketball shall be determined by the following:

2nd GRADE DIVISION
· A child must be in the 2nd grade as of October 1, 2010 and cannot turn 10 prior to September 1, 2011.

3rd GRADE DIVISION
· A child must be in the 3rd grade as of October 1, 2010 and cannot turn 11 prior to September 1, 2011.

4th GRADE DIVISION
· A child must be in the 4th grade as of October 1, 2010 and cannot turn 12 prior to September 1, 2011.

5th GRADE DIVISION
· A child must be in the 5th grade as of October 1, 2010 and cannot turn 13 prior to September 1, 2011.

6th GRADE DIVISION
· A child must be in the 6th grade as of October 1, 2010 and cannot turn 14 prior to September 1, 2011.

7TH GRADE DIVISION
· A child must be in the 7th grade as of October 1, 2010 and cannot turn 15 prior to September 1, 2011.

8TH GRADE DIVISION
· A child must be in the 8th grade as of October 1, 2010 and cannot turn 16 prior to September 1, 2011.

9TH GRADE DIVISION
·A child must be in the 9th grade as of October 1, 2010 and cannot turn 17 prior to September 1, 2011.

10TH GRADE DIVISION
· A child must be in the 10th grade as of October 1, 2010 and cannot turn 18 prior to September 1, 2011.

11TH GRADE DIVISION
· A child must be in the 11th grade as of October 1, 2010 and cannot turn 19 prior to September 1, 2011.

12TH GRADE DIVISION
· A child must be in the 12th grade as of October 1, 2010 and cannot turn 20 prior to September 1, 2011.       

*The National Chair(s) may approve other participants at their sole discretion.

**If an athlete wishes to play down one grade division, she must petition the National Chair and must meet all criteria established.

Due to the large number of players in some age groups we are in need of committed coaches for some teams. Please call Tim Mullins 205-492-7175 if you would be interested in coaching. Good Assistant Coaches are also needed for some teams. If you are a former coach or player and would like to volunteer as an assistant coach please call Tim Mullins 205-492-7175. If you would be interested in forming another team within our age groups please call Tim Mullins or Gerard Johnson.

Players wishing to tryout for the Alabama Twisters must be at least 15 minutes early for the tryout with a completed and Parent-signed Player Application. Please read the Player/Parent Guide now and complete the Player Application before coming to the gym.  You will also need to complete and sign the Photo/Video/Audio Consent Form at some time during the season. Tryouts typically last two hours so be prepared to stay the total time. Players selected for a particular team may be asked to attend a second tryout if necessary. All players at tryout may not be selected for a team. Second teams may be formed if coaches are available. If you are unable to be at your assigned tryout then contact the coach to arrange for another tryout if possible. Second teams may be formed from players not making a Twister first team if a coach becomes available. A fee ($10.00) will be charged at the door to cover gym usage and registration costs for each tryout. Players called back will not be required to pay for call backs. Some teams may offer multiple days to tryout. Players will be evaluated by multiple coaches. Other opportunities may not be available so make arrangements now to tryout.

A Second Tryout and Call-backs from first tryout will be held for some age groups before/after the AHSAA State Tournament at a time/location to be announced. If you plan on trying out for one of these Elite Teams please make arrangements to attend the tryout. Some age groups may have two teams depending on the availability of coaches and players.
